RESEARCH

The NBCRI laboratory is based in the Clinical Science Institute on the grounds of University Hospital, Galway. The research team is made up of staff and students from National University of Ireland, Galway.

Since 2004 the research facility has been under the clinical direction of Michael Kerin, Professor of Surgery at University Hospital, Galway and head of the Academic Department of Surgery at NUI Galway.

".........The past year has seen many new developments in the research programme in the NBCRI. The research programme is now developing on three fronts – Population Genetics, Molecular Profiling and Gene Therapy/Cellular Interactions. Each of these areas is now active with research projects which are successful in attracting funding and producing outputs. It is a great pleasure to act as Director of the Programme and to work with the large number of scientists, clinicians and medical students who are dedicated, productive and motivated. Research has an important role in the management of breast cancer, the development of clinical personnel and the improvement of knowledge. It is the basis for an exciting future. Finally to our sponsors, fundraisers and The Board and Officers of the NBCRI, I offer my sincere thanks. Without your help and support none of this would be possible".
