There are many organisations nationwide fundraising for breast cancer awareness, but the NBCRI's role is unique, as their research can help to ascertain the causes and factors that influence breast cancer and therefore help to develop effective screening, treatments and medication to combat it.
Of course, having family members and friends located in the West of Ireland I realise the urgency in having breast checks more accessible to regional areas and I commend the Institute's continuous campaigning to fast-forward breast screening in Ireland.
The achievements of the NBCRI are incredible, as it is entirely dependent on donations and the constant support and enthusiasm of the many fundraisers who continually manage to come up with fun and novel ideas to raise awareness.
I hope my involvement will help support the NBCRI's fundraising campaigns and help raise the profile of the charity and it’s work nationwide, highlighting the much needed research being carried out by Professor Michael Kerin and his team at NUI Galway.
